Amador County Farmers Market celebrates its 24th season with special community events

Amador County Farmers Market celebrates its 24th season with special community events.

The Amador Farmers Market children’s coloring contest begins in June. Coloring pages can be picked up at all 3 market locations. Prizes will be awarded according to age group. Make sure to attend a market in Sutter Creek, Jackson or Pine Grove in June to pick up coloring pages for the kids while shopping for fresh local produce.

There will be customer appreciation days in July. Events will feature raffles and an assemblage of wall tiles painted by customers and local artists. Tiles can be purchased to paint at all markets and will be combined into a wall mural to be displayed in the community for all to appreciate.

August market events include cooking demonstrations by local chefs on Saturday the 12th in Sutter Creek and Wednesday the 23rd in Pine Grove. Also in August, the annual Tomato tasting contest, sponsored by Amador County Master Gardeners and judged by local chefs, will challenge local gardeners for bragging rights. The popular contest will be held on Saturday the 26th, in Sutter Creek. Entries should be brought to the market by 10AM. See the Amador Farmers Market website for more details on all events.

The annual Farm Tour and Dinner fundraiser, sponsored by Amador Farmers Market and Farms of Amador will be held on August 12th. The Tour will feature 3 exclusive invitations to visit small farms in the Jackson and Ione Valley area and will culminate at the Pope Taylor Ranch for a catered dinner and silent auction. Dinner will be prepared by Lucy’s Spice Box and classical jazz will be performed by the 41st Street Quartet.  Proceeds from the benefit support the Amador Farmers Market Association and the Farms of Amador school farm tour program.
